INTRODUCTION
With the consent of Agamaprabhākara Munirāja Śrī Punya. vijayasi, the work of critically editing the text of the Bhagavatīsūtra was entrusted to Pt. Bechardasji, an authority on Jaina Agamas. But after this assignment, within a year, Muni Śrī Punyavijayaji passed away in Bombay on the sixth day of the dark half of the month of Jyestha in V.S. 2027. Pt. Bechardasji continued his work, prepared the version of this voluminous work and submitted it to the Mahavira Jaina Vidyalaya. At the instance of the management of the Mahavira Jaina Vidyalaya I tried to make the version as flawless as possible with the help of proper material. As compared to the version contained in the first part, that contained in the second and the third is better because the text-portion in the first part has not been compared with the very old palm-leaf mss., whereas the text-portion in the second and the third parts has been compared with them. Of course, after publication, the text-portion in the first part is also compared with the very old palm-leaf mss. and the readings yielded by them will be given in the Appendix to the third part. Description of the Mss.:
The mss. utilised in the preparation of the second and the third parts, over and above those described in the first part, are described hereunder: To This is the palm-leaf ms. belonging to the Lonkāgacchīya Jaina
Jñāna Bhandāra. When Muni Sri Punyavijayaji reorganised the Bhandāras in Jesalmer, that is, in V.S. 2006-7, this Bhandāra was in the Lonkāgacchīya Upāśraya in the City of Jesalmer. After some years the management of the Bhandāra handed it over to the Jinabhadrasūri Jñāna Bhandara situated on the Jesalmer Fort in order that it could be preserved well.
The ms. consists of 422 folios. It can be assigned to the twelfth century V.S. The script is beautiful and legible. Its size is 67 cms. x 5 cms. The last folio (No. 422) contains three decorative designs.
The detailed description of the ms. occurs in the Catalogue of mss. in the Jesalmer Bhaņdāras, prepared by the Late Muni Śrī Punyavijayaji. The Catalogue is published by the L. D. Institute of Indology in its L. D. Series (No. 36). For the description one may refer to pp. 362-363 of the Catalogue. Though the date is given neither in the colophon nor at the end, on the basis of the style of the script and the names of the Jaina Ācāryas occurring in the colophon, Muni Srī Punyavijayaji has assigned the ms. to the twelfth century V.S.
