person till this day. So, we request the person whoever he is to return it to the L.D. Institute of Indology, Ahmedabad-9.
In addition to the abovementioned mss., we have utilizsed one more ms. We have given sign to to it. But now we have forgotten as to which this ms. was. Possibly it was a ms. containing the Bhagavatīsūtra along with the vrtti thereon and it was written in tripātha style.
In the variants noted by us from the printed text of the vștti if there is a variant different from the one found in the printed text of the vrtti, then that variant should be regarded as noted from the old ms. of the vrtti.
Even when the work was under print we have consulted other mss. preserved in the L.D. Institute of Indology to check a particular reading. The readings from such mss. are noted by us with the remark likhitapratyantare'.
While the work was under print we have constantly consulted the ms. belonging to the L.D. Institute of Indology (Munirāja Śrī Punyavijayaji's Collection, Nos. 263, 264 and 267) for the text and the Vrtti.
We have not noted, in the latter part of this work, the readings yielded by the mss. except the gr because the readings found in them were not useful and important.
Explanatory notes having no sign at all or having the sign oor Asato are written by the editor himself; those having the sign 3TTO orqat are from the Bhagavatīsūtravịtti of Ac. Abhayadevasūri ; and those that are written after the Vrtti by Ac. Abhayadevasūri contain at the end the remark 'vșttyanuśärena'.
On the basis of the abovementioned material we have critically edited in this first part the text of the Viyahapannattisutta alias the Bhagavatīsūtra upto Sataka IX.
We request readers to read the contents for having the idea of the subject-matter of the text printed in this part.
Taking into consideration the fact that I had translated some portion of Bhagavatīsūtra and its Vștti in 1974 V.S. as also the fact that I have devoted my whole life to the study and teaching of Prāksta, Ardhamāgadhi, etc., the general editors of Jaina-Agama-Series of Shri Mahavira Jaina Vidyalaya-Late Agamaprabhākara Munivara Shri Punyavijayaji and Pt.
