In the Jain religion, there are twenty-four Tirthankars. According to Jain philosophy, all Tirthankars were human beings once, but have now attained a state of perfect
enlightenment through meditation and self-realization. They are faultless human models. They are known as "Gods" of Jains. The concept of a supernatural god as creator, protector and destroyer of the universe does not exist in Jainism. Jains pray to these Tirthankars because they show the path of Enlightenment and Liberation.
