सूत्र-रूप और उसके अर्थ-रूप रत्नों से भरे हुए, क्षमा, दम और मार्दवादि गुणों से सम्पन्न, काश्यप गोत्रीय देवद्धिगणि क्षमाश्रमण को प्रणाम करता हूँ । ६ ।

साधु-समाचारी २२४. उस काल और उस समय श्रमण भगवान महावीर वर्षाकाल के बीस रात्रि सहित एक मास व्यतीत होने पर अर्थात् पापाढ़ी चातुर्मासी से पचास दिन व्यतीत होने पर वर्षावास रहे। २२५. हे भगवन् ! यह किस कारण से ऐसा कहा जाता है कि थमण भगवान महावीर वर्षा-ऋतु के बीस रात्रि सहित एक मास व्यतीत होने पर वर्षावास रहे? उत्तर - कारण यह है कि उस समय प्राय: करके गृहस्थों के घर चारों ओर से चटाइयों आदि से आच्छादित होते हैं, सफेदी किये हुए होते हैं, ढके हुए होते हैं, लेपन किये हुए होते हैं, चार दीवारी से सुरक्षित होते हैं, घस करके समान किये हुए होते हैं, शुद्ध किए हुए होते हैं अथवा मुलायम किये हुए होते हैं। धूपों से सुगन्धित किये हुए होते हैं, खुदे हुए जलाशय से युक्त होते हैं, खुदी हुई नालियों से युक्त होते हैं, स्वयं के लिये
