पक्ष प्राषाढ़ कृष्ण चल रहा था तब उस ग्राषाढ़ कृष्ण चतुर्थी के दिन, तेतीस सागरोपम की आयुष्य आदि पूर्ण कर सर्वार्थसिद्ध नामक महाविमान से च्युत हुए और च्युत होकर इसी जम्बूद्वीप नामक द्वीप के भारतवर्ष के नाभि कुलकर की भार्या मरुदेवी की कुक्षि में, मध्यरात्रि के समय [मनुष्य-सम्बन्धी आहार, भव और स्थिति प्राप्त । होने पर गर्भरूप में उत्पन्न हुए। १६२. कौशलिक अर्हत् ऋषभ तीन ज्ञान से युक्त थे । यथा- 'मैं च्युत होऊंगा' यह वे जानते थे इत्यादि । यावत् ऋपभ की माता स्वप्न देखती है, यथा- गज, वृषभ पादि, सम्पूर्ण वर्णन पूर्वोक्त महावीर चरित्र में पठित वर्णन के समान ही है। विशेष यह है कि माता मरुदेवी प्रथम स्वप्न में वृषभ को मुख में प्रवेश करती हुई देखती है और शेष अजित से पार्श्व पर्यन्त बाईस तीर्थंकरों की माताएँ प्रथम स्वप्न में गज को मुख में प्रवेश करते हुए देखती हैं। मरुदेवी स्वप्न-दर्शन का वृत्तान्त नाभि कुलकर से कहती है। उस समय स्वप्नलक्षण-पाठक नहीं थे, अतएव स्वप्नों का अर्थ नाभि कुलकर स्वयं । कहते हैं। १६३. उस काल और उस समय कोशलिक अर्हत् ऋषभ । को जब ग्रीष्म ऋतु का प्रथम मास, प्रथम पक्ष चैत्र कृष्ण चल रहा था तब उस चैत्र कृष्ण अष्टमी के दिन
from the celestial abode called Sarwirthasiddha, after having dwelt there for a period of thirty sāgaropama years. He descended to the land of Bharata in the continent of Jambūdvipa and was conceived in the womb of Marudevi, the wife of Nābhi, the great patriarch living in Ikşvākubhūmi. It was midnight at the moment and the previous night was just giving place to the new. Arhat Bşabha, then, entered a new existence with a new body and a new repast. The first dream that Marudevi saw was the vision of a bull entering her mouth. Mothers of all other Tirthaikaras first saw an elephant. 192. Arhat Rsabha, the Kosalin, had, at that moment, a threefold awareness: he was aware that he will descend; he was not aware of the descent itself but was aware that he had descended. His mother saw the same dreams as did the mother of Bhagavān Mahavira. Other occurrences, too, were the same as in the life of Mahavira, but with one difference: the patriarch Nābhi did not send for dream-diviners, he divined the dreams himself. 193.
