च्युत हुए और च्युत होकर इसी जम्बूद्वीप नामक द्वीप में भारतवर्ष के सोरियपुर नामक नगर में राजा समुद्रविजय की भार्या शिवादेवी की कुक्षि में, मध्यरात्रि के समय, यावत् चित्रा नक्षत्र का योग आने पर गर्भरूप में उत्पन्न हुए । स्वप्न दर्शन से लेकर धनवृष्टि तक का सारा वर्णन पूर्ववति महावीर वर्णन के समान यहाँ पर भी पढ़ना चाहिए।
१६३. उस काल और उस समय
He descended to the land of Bharata, in the continent of Jambudvipa and was conceived unto the womb of Sivadevi, wife of king Samudravijaya, ruling at the city of Sauripura. The previous night was, at that moment, just giving way to the new. The moon was in conjunction with the constellation citrā.
Later events that happened before the birth of Arhat Ariştanemi should be taken as identical with events that occurred in the life of Bhagavan Mahävira.
