NOTES AND NEWS.
The Jain Swetamber Committee of Gujranwalla (Punjab) express their satisfaction at our trying to move and obtaining assurance from the Punjab University to classify the Jains as a separate body in the several University examinations. In their letter of the 23rd August last. they write:
• We the members of the Jain Swetamber Committee, Cujranwalla, are highly pleased to read the news in “The Jain Swetamber Conference Herald” about your getting a separate Column for the classification of the Jain students appearing in University examinations.
Be pleased to accept our heartfelt thanks for this praiseworthy work of yours.
May god grant you long life to be a boon to your community.”
We may inform our readers that we are corresponding on this subject with the other Universities also and we hope to hear in return very shortly. We will then publish a detailed account of our correspondence.
We are glad to note that Mehta Sagar Karan of Jaipur has successfully passed the B. A. examination of the Allahabad University. We are also informed that Mr. Chotalal Trikamlal Parekh of Viramgam, who is Joint Secretary of the Benares Jain Sanskrit Pathsalla, has successfully passed the District Pleader's examination of the Bombuy Hich Courts held in June last. We offer our congratulations to both the gentlemen on their Success and fervently hope that they will utilise their learning for the betterment of their community and religion.
Seth Manakchand Panachand, President and Mr. A. B. Latthe M. A, Honorary Secretary of the Southern Marliatta Jain Association, have, on behalf of the Association, forwarded in Juue last, a memorial to the Registrar of the University of Bombay, to be submitted for their favourable consideration before the Syndicate of the Bombay University.
