જૈન કોમમાં દરેક દાયકામાં થતા જતા વસ્તીના ઘટાડા માટે સેન્સસ ઓફીસર નીચે મુજબ નોંધ લે છે તે પણ જૈન કોમના નેતાઓનું ધ્યાન ખેંચવા લાયક હોવાથી અત્રે રજુ કરવામાં આવે છે.
"The Jain Community is gracnally decreasing in number proportionately to the population of the country as a whole. This is probably due in part to the practice of child marriage and the prohibition of widows re-marriage and partly also to the small size of the community which attracting as it does, no adhegents from outside, can not increase at the same rate, as much larger ones. Dr. Guha suggests with some force that the Jains have a lowered fertility and an increased infant mortality rate on account of their division into small endogamous groups, some of which in Ahmedabad do not exceed 500 Souls. The increase among Jains at this census was 6.2 and the Jain now stands at 0.36./. of the population of India instead of 0.37.). of last cen. sus and the 0.49 , of 1891.”
ઉપર પ્રમાણે સ્થિતિ હોવાથી જૈન નેતાઓ અને તેમના ધર્મોપદેશકોએ પિતાના અનુયાયીઓની કેમ વૃદ્ધિ થાય તે ઉપર ખાસ ધ્યાન આપવાનું છે, અને જે જે ઠેકાણે ધાર્મિક વૃતિની વૃધ્ધીને અંગે ત્રુટીઓ માલુમ પડે તે ઉપર ખાસ કાળજી રાખવાનું કાર્ય ધર્મોપદેશકેનું હોવાથી તે બાબત સુચના કરવાનું યોગ્ય લાગે છે.
ઉપર દર્શાવવામાં આવેલ શહેરમાં વસનારી જૈન પ્રજા તરફનો સૌથી વધારે પ્રમાણના રજુ થતા આંકડાઓ તરફ નજર કરતા ગામડાઓમાં વસનારી જૈન પ્રજા કરતાં, જેને શહેરી જીવન ગુજારનાર તરીકે બીજી કોમે કરતાં મોખરે આવે છે અને તેના કારણરૂપે જૈન કેમનું લક્ષ્યબીંદુ વ્યાપારીક દ્રષ્ટિનું હોવાથી શહેરી તરીકે જીવન ગુજારનાર તરીકે આવું મેટું પ્રમાણુ હોય તે સંવિત છે; પરંતુ શહેરી જીવન ગુજારતા-શહેરમાં આવેલ
