Sir Syed University of Science, Technology and Management
O F SERVICE TO THE WORLD
The Trust for Promotion of Higher Education proposes to set up a University of Science, Technology, and Management in order to assist those less fortunate. The University will instruct students in science and technology, and will enable them to "get on their feet" and participate more fully in mainstream society. The University is still in its planning stages but hopes to fulfill three aims:
to have a strong research base and teaching program, which meets international standards, in various fields of engineering sciences, medical sciences and management; to train and educate students who might not otherwise have access to higher education, and to examine and award degrees to them at the undergraduate, Masters and Ph.D. levels, and; to work for the promotion of science and technology and contribute to the growth of scientific culture among Indian Muslims. The project will be instituted in three phases and, at its full strength, the university will house 380 members in various departments of studies.

Sarvodaya Shramadana
The Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement works to "awaken" rural communities to their highest potential. The program encourages individuals to share labor, time and energy in fulfilling community needs. Sarvodaya Shramadana functions through a number of initiatives such as establishing "Community Kitchens," encouraging village leadership, and mobilizing "Shramadana Societies" that help to manage and organize village affairs. Sarvodaya agencies - such as Economic Enterprise Development, Legal Aid, Income Generation, Pre-School and Child Care Services - also provide necessary resources for growing rural communities. This movement has spread into 11,000 villages.

Community Table
Community Table (CT) serves dinner three nights per week in Boulder, Colorado, USA. The clientele is a mix of low-income and homeless people. CT strives to provide food that the less fortunate might not otherwise be able to have: organic produce and hot, quality meals from local restaurants. This project is an on-going service that truly is fostering a community spirit by going beyond the format of a traditional soup kitchen.
