Did you know that Sardar Patel appeared on the cover of TIME Magazine and formed the focus of the cover story as early as January 1947, several months before India's Independence? Sardar's genius for organization and public administration was very well-known throughout India. The TIME Magazine's cover and cover story underline his reputation overseas as one who had the unique ability to solve what appeared to be nascent India's intractable problems.
Sardar was at that time Minister for Home, Information, and Broadcasting in the "Interim Government” (September 2, 1946 - until the sub-continent's partition on August 14-15, 1947) with Jawaharlal Nehru as Vice-President of the Viceroy's Executive Council.
