Jain Bhavan Expansion Project
INTRODUCTION
With a sense of great pride and accomplishment, we are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Jain Bhavan. Our Jain Bhavan was the first custom designed facility in North America to meet the religious, cultural and social needs of the Jain community. It has been a showcase of community spirit, dedication and cooperation amongst the Jain community of Southern California. It has fulfilled the needs for both, young and adults, to have a sense of belonging in the preservation of Jain religion and our cultural heritage.
Since 1988, our Jain Bhavan has been fully utilized for the intended activities. For the past 10 years, the Jain Bhavan has been a focal point for religious, educational, cultural, community service, and outreach activities. Over the years, the requirements as well as the size of our community have increased steadily, and we now need to re-plan our facilities to fulfill the added needs of our expanded community.
Our goal is to integrate the existing Jain Bhavan and the adjoining two properties and develop into a multi-purpose Jain Bhavan Complex which will fulfill the needs of our community for next 15 years. In brief, our plan is to renovate and enlarge the existing Derasar; build a large meeting hall, a dining hall, and adequate number of Swadhay and Pathshala rooms, and provide for adequate parking.
In addition, we will include the priceless wooden replica of the famous Palitana Jain temple, a museum, and the JAINA National Library - a very valuable resource for scholars and students of Jainism. These amenities will propel our Jain Bhavan into a prominent destination of international repute for pilgrimage, tourism, and scholarly pursuits.
