We had a very busy last quarter of the year 2003. First of all we recognized all the
members of our community who had done any kind of Tapasya at the Swamivatsalya celebration in the month of September 2003. There were about 40 adults and children who had done some tapasya. All children under the age of 17 were presented with gift certificates. Every year we have been seeing increase in the number of members doing tapasya.
We continued the event we started last year, namely "Diwali Pooja" in the month of October. This year we also did Abhisekh. Five adult members of our center performed Abhisekh. A nice lunch followed the pooja.
In the month of November, we celebrated Guru Jayanti. Some pathsala children did the skit and some others dressed up as the person they consider their guru and indicated why they consider them guru. Arti Shah's son dressed up as Mahatma Gandhi and her daughter dressed up as Mother Teresa, were the highlights of the evening. A joyful evening for every one.
In the month of December, we had an overnight yatra to Jain Bhavan of Los Angeles. Due to request from our community members, the Jain Center of Greater Phoenix arranged a "Yatra to LA". There were about 33 adults and 9 children joined in a bus yatra to LA temple for pooja. We started early on Saturday (12/20) from Phoenix and returned back in the night on Sunday (12/21). We did two poojas in the Bhavan, visited Buddhist temple in Hacienda Heights, and some shopping at Pioneer Blvd. Overall it was enjoyable two days.
