JAINA to Participate in the World Parliament of Religions Cape Town, South Africa
December 1999 Dr. Rashmi Gardi, Chairman of the interfaith committee requested JAINA to be one of the sponsors of this meeting. Board readily agreed. Inauguration of Jain Academy
International Federation A meeting of prominent Jain was held on Friday, 1 January, 1999 at Samrat Hotel, Bombay. The trustees of Jain Academy, Bombay, Rajkot, Baroda, and Dr. L.M.Singhvi, Ex-High Commissioner for India at U.K., the eminent pilanthropist Shri Dipchandbhai Gardi, JAINA President Dr. Dhirajbhai Shah and other leading personalities also attended. In all there were fifty six members who attended the meeting.
This meting was held to consider about the formation of Jain Academy international Federation and other matters. The purpose was to create facilities for education and research in Jainism. The constitution of the Federation was passed unanimously and then the inauguration ceremony was performed by the honourable Dr. L.M.Singhvi, Ex-High Commissioner for India at U.K. the internationally acclaimed scholar of Jainsim, by lighting a lamp.
The meeting was presided by Shri C. N. Sanghavi, the founder president of the Jain Social Groups' Federation and Chairman trustee of Jain Academy. Many eminent Jain Institutions also joined the federation as founder members.
Shri Dipchandbhai Gardi, Dr. Dhiraj Bhai Shah, President JAINA, Dr. Manoj Dharmsi, past president, Dr. Pravin Mehta from USA and many other welcomed and blessed the establishment of this federation.
Shri C.N. Sanghavi, the chairman of this function declared that a donation of Rs.1,00,000/- (Rs. One lakh) has been offered to our newly established federation by Dr. Bipinbhai Doshi was is present in the meeting.
This declaration was highly applauded by the members present in the meeting. Thus the meeting ended with all enthusiasm and joy on this very auspicious first day of the year 1999.
Felicitation of Shri C.N. Sanghavi
Under the auspices of Institute of Jainology a function was arranged at Patkar Hall on Friday 1 January, 1999. On this occasion the founder President of Jain Social Groups' Federation C.N. Sanghavi was felicitated for his outstanding services. The President of the function was Shri Ratibhai Chandaria, the Chairman of Institute of Jainology and Shri Dipchandbhai Gardi, the Chairman of Shri Bhagwan Mahavir Memorial Committee was the honorable distinguished guest. Shri Kishorebhai Sanghavi, leading Jain personality and industrialist was the chief guest.
Dr. Kumarpal Desai spoke very appropriately appreciating Shri C.N. Sanghavi and his outstanding services. He made a special mention regarding the maximum contribution of Shri C.N.Sanghavi in the development of Jain Social Groups' Federation. This institution has got 198 branches having more than 60000 members. Parenting such a big family, Shri Sanghavi has rendered services with all his might, strength and dedication, making it one of the leading institutions, achieving international status.
Dr. L.M.Singhvi said that "Shri C.N.Sanghavi is not an individual but an Institution itself. We all heartily wish him a healthy life so that his precious services may be available for a long time.
At the end of the function Shri C.N.Sanghavi was felicitated and honored by many Institutions by offering shawls, bouquets and momentos.
Diwaliben M. Mehta Award Diwaliben M Mehta Charitable Trust awarded the prestigious Diwaliben M Mehta Awards toll individuals from different field. The awards were given by Shri Pandurang Shastri, on January 8, 1999. Each award carries a citation, Gold Medal and a cash prize of Rs.300,000
One of the recipients of this award was Dr. Kumarpal Desai of Ahemdabad. He is well known figure among Jains around the world for his contribution to Jainism. He is a frequent visitor to North America during Paryushan month.
