the Jain Society of Toronto participated in with many other people: Christians, Bud- dhists, Muslims, Native Canadians and B'hais. We recited Namokar Mantra and gave a brief explanation of Anckantvad. Young Jains presented a dance.
Gurudev Chitrabhanuji was honored on his 75th birthday and for the work he has done in North American over the last 25 years.

Acharya Chandanaji and her disciples Subhamji and Vibhaji visited Albany for three days in July. They gave discourses and conducted prayers. A demonstration of incredible memory (Avadhan Prayog) by Sadhvi Subhamji dazzled the audience. People became familiar with their activities of Seva, Shiksa and Sadhana at Veerayatan in Bihar, India.
During July, five Jain young people from the JSCD attended the YJA Convention in San Francisco, CA.

The center elected the following members to its Executive Committee under the leadership of Pramod Jheveri - President, Mahesh Shah - Vice President, Ravi Kothari - Secretary, Ashwin Parekh - Treasurer, Jwala Prasad - Education, Jigna Shah Youth, Vir Singh Jain - Facilities, Ramila Shah - Food, Ila Punater - Membership. Sirendra Singhvi and Chandra Shah were reappointed as JAINA Directors.
The center celebrated Mahavir Jayanti in April and invited Shakhan Chand Jain of India to speak.
The Columbus Jain Sangh and the Detroit Jain Sangh visited the center in the summer to do pooja and exchange ideas.
Buffalo, NY
The Pratishtha at the Hindu-Jain Temple of Buffalo, NY was held on May 26, 1996. We were honored by celebrating this event in the presence of Gurudev Chi- trabhanuji who performed the ceremony. Jains from all over North America and from overseas attended. The Buffalo temple is the second temple to follow JAINA's guidelines for temple installation.
The temple conveys the message of unity among the various Jain sects and the Hindu community. The temple has idols of Lord Mahavir, Lord Paraswanath and a Shila of Namokar Mantra.
Before placing the idols, there was a great procession which included many dig. nitaries such as our local congressman. About 2,000 people graced the occasion. Flowers were showered on the temple by helicopter.

The Jain Center of New Jersey (ICN) celebrated the Mahavir Jayanti in April, 1996. This celebration was dedicated to late Vinodbhai C.Shah. Over 100 children participated in a variety of activities. Gurudev Chitrabhanuji graced the occasion and spoke about Vinodbhai's service to the Jain community in North America.
Shri Atmasiddhi Shastra centennial year was celebrated with Sunandaben Vohra as a guest speaker.
Kiranbhai Parekh gave discourses and conducted Swaddhyaya classes for four weeks in July.
About 200 Jains attended and enjoyed the picnic at Shephard Lake.
This year the Paryushan Parva was celebrated under the guidance of Shri Kirtichandraji of Triputi Bandhu. Hedemonstrated Yoga Sadhana and spoke on various topics related to Jainism. Over 2,200 people attended Swapna Darshan and Mahavir Jayanti celebration. There were 36 Tapasyas with one 21 day fast.
Pathshala classes run from September, to May. Over 60 children learn about Jainism in three levels of classes.

The Jain Society of Capital District (JSCD) celebrated Mahavir Jayanti on April 13, 1996 at the Hindu Temple where a murti of Lord Mahavir has been installed since May, 1993. The celebration started with Snatra Pooja followed by a cultural program and Swamivatsal. The cultural program was a recital of prayers, dances, a discussion on the use of animals for testing medicine, a drama entitled "Live and Let Live," and an Academy Bowl.
