guages as well. The translation of the "Tattvartha Sutra" is progressing well and is scheduled for release in August, 1993.
Pandit Dhirubhai Mehta, who even teaches Jain Sadhu/Sadhvis the basic principles and practices of Jainism, had a very successful session in 1992 in the UK. It will be repeated in 1993. His audio tapes are in great demand.
The Institute organized an Environment Day involving youths and many prominent speakers. It hosted a lecture honoring the visiting Governor of Maharashtra, Shree Subramaniam, the former Vice President of India Shree Hidayatullah, and S. Ramakrishna of Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, Bombay. It organized a one day "Shibir" planned by youths of Oshwal and Navnat Vanik Associations and Young Jains. Eminent scholars like Prof. Padmanabh Jaini from the U.S.A., Dr. Nathmal Tatia from India, Vinod Kapashi, Kerry Brown, and Atul Shah from the UK gave discourses to over 400 youths on application of the principles of Jainism in day to day life. It has initiated a "Jain Education Board" for preparation of syllabus and text books for teaching of Jainism at primary and secondary school levels. The Institute prepared a presentation on Doordsrshan, Delhi, a spe cial video on the life of Mahavira in English, Hindi, and Gujarati. The video is being distributed throughout the world.
To encourage attempts at protecting the environment for all beings, the Institute is considering establishing a Jain Environment Award and putting Jain principles into practice in today's world.
The Institute has undertaken bibliography work of the manuscripts of Jainism in the British and other libraries outside India. It is considering the collection of research data, books, and works on Jainism currently in process.
The Institute has established a liaison office at Ahmedabad for effective coordination and publication

Dr. Michael Tobias and Jane Morrison Tobias spent February and part of March in China, Indonesia and India promoting Jainism and ecology. They met with the Ministers of Environment and Population in all three courntries along with hundreds of scientists and activists and religious leaders. In addition, Dr. Tobias discussed the basic tenets of Lord Mahvir with Chinese ecologists, Indonesian Islamic ulamas and a variety of social planners.
In New Delhi, Dr. Tobias was hosted by Mr. R.P. Jain, India Coordinator for Promotion of Jainism Abroad. it was Mr. R.P. Jain who arranged for the introduction to the present and former Ministers of Environment and Forests, as well as to many others.
Albany to celebrate Pratishtha Mahotsav
It is with great pleasure that we, the members of the Jain Society of the Capital District, Albany, New York, announce the celebration of Pratishtha Mahotsav for the Pratimaji of Tirthankar Mahavir in the Hindu Temple at 450 AlbanyShaker Road, Laudonville, NY on May 29-30.
We would be delighted to receive as many of your members who can join us in the celebration. We are planning two days of full events to include discourses from spiritual leaders as well as educational and cultural programs.
