में कितना विस्मयकारी है ? इन नव पदार्थों के 115 भेद, प्रभेद और उपभेदों का अवलोकन तो उन्हें खोज निकालने वाले व्यक्ति के अथाह ज्ञान और उसकी पारदर्शी दृष्टि के समक्ष जैसे सबको परास्त करता सा लगता है।
जैन दर्शन विज्ञान है, इसीलिए उसमें जीव के साथ अजीव का भी इतना विशद विवेचन है। उसके दीर्घकाय होने का भी यही रहस्य है। विज्ञान अपनी खोज को समाप्ति तक चलता रहता है। तीर्थंकरों की दृष्टि भी छोटे-बड़े आकार पर नहीं, ज्ञान के अंतिम तार्किक निष्कर्ष पर रही। भौतिक, रसायन और प्राणिशास्त्र और इनकी शाखाओं और उपशाखाओं की आकाश गंगा में आदमी खो जाता है, जैन दर्शन की थाह भी उसी तरह सबके लिए सुगम नहीं बनी। विज्ञान का अपना कलेवर होता है। जैन धर्म का विस्तार भी उसका अपना नहीं, विज्ञान का है। भगवान महावीर ने तो उसे केवल खोजा था, गढ़ा नहीं।
एलिजाबेथ शार्प ने जिन 'फ्लॉज' की ओर इंगित किया है, वस्तुतः वह जैन दर्शन के विज्ञान की ही तरह, सर्वगम्य और सर्वग्राह्य न बन पाने के कारणों की मीमांसा है।
