The second most important Kasay-Maan can be crushed with the inculcation of Pramod Bhavana. Normally, humans tend to appreciate others only when they find affectionate affiliation. Ego and pride are larger when beings move beyond their immediate circle. The tendency to be critical increases when self interest comes to the fore with more distant beings. If one assumes that these very distant beings may have been mother, father, spouse, childen or relatives in the previous birth immediately the hostility subsides and appreciation emerges because hostility and appreciation are two sides of the same coin. Practicing Pramod Bhavana attracts uchcha gotra karma (getting birth in a noble/royal family). Socially if one evaluates, people born in noble families enjoy the entailing benefits and conducive surroundings to undertake the efforts for achieving liberation. Pramod Bhavana stands second in the line of four bhavanas. It becomes significant if looked at it from the descending order. Those who are happy when they see virtues in others increase their patience and forbearance leading to decline in volatility of emotional surges. It is Dharma which leads individual to the ultimate goal. One should know true nature and essence of religion or Dharma. Dharma is the true nature of a thing. It is non-violence. It consists of three jewels - - Right faith, Right knowledge and right conduct. Dharma rescues souls from lower states of existence. It helps individuals to attain the supreme state of omniscience. Religion consists of ten-fold virtues like forgivness, humility, penance, chastity renunciation, straightfor- wardness etc. The auspicious path of Dharma propounded by Jina's who have conquered their passions enables the soul to cross the ocean of worldly existence. Meditation Dharma Bhavana is reflection on power & attributes of Dharma. Four Supplementary Bhavana Besides the twelve Bhavanas described above, Jainism has laid great importance on the four suplementary Bhavanas. These four Bhavanas are supporting twelve Bhavanas and shape our attitude & outlook towards the world. These four Bhavanas are defined in Tattvartha Sutra as : (ch.VII verse 6). Maitri-Pramoda-Karunya-madhyasthyani, ca sattva-gunadhika-klissyamana vineyesu.' It means friendship to all beings, sentient or non sentient in general a feeling of gladness in relation to those superior to oneself in merits, a feeling of compassion for those in misery, a feeling of neutrality in relation to those who in an idiot-like fashion are unworthy of instructon. Four Bhavanss thus are 1. Freindliness (mairtri) 2. Appreciation of Merits (Pramoda) 3. Compassion (Karuna) 4. Equanimity (Madhyastha) These four supplementry Bhavans are precribed by Jain Acharyas : Chitrabhanuji as described them in his immortal Song- Maitribhavanu Pavitra Zaranu'... which runs a follows: (d) 1991, Commentary by Monila Shirishbhai Vakhariya, Tattvartha Sutra of Shri Umaswami, Veer Vidya Sangh, Ahmedabad. `May the sacred stream of amity flow forever...
