The Goveroment of Bihar established the Research Institute of Prakrit, Jainology and Ahimsa at Vaishali in 1955, with the object inter alia to promote advanced studies and research in Prakrit and Jaipology and to publish works of permanent value to scholars This institute is one of the six research institutes being run by the Government of Biba'. The other five are : (i) Mithila Institute of Post-Graduate Studies and Research in Sanskrit Learning at Darbhanga; (ii) K. P Jayaswal Research Institute for research in ancient medieval and modern Indian history at Patna; (iii) Bihar Rashtrabhasa Parishad for research and advanced studies in Hindi, at Patna; (iv) Nava Nalanda Mahavibar for research and post-graduate studies in Buddhist Learning and Pali at Nalanda and (v) Institute of Po t-graduate Studies and Research in Arabic and Persian at Patna.
The Institute has taken up the Publication of Research Bulletios as a part of its programme. The present volume is the 4th number of the Institute's Research Bulletins.
