The 'Sthavirāvali of the Paryusanā-kalpa (earliest part c. A.D. 100), as well as the 'Sthavirāvali of the Nandisutra (c. mid 5th cent. A.D.), the two being the earliest sources, lay down the following order of succession of the patriarchs of the Northern Church: Arhat Vardhamāna (Jina Mahāvīra) (Period of preaching B.C. 507-477) Ganadhara Sudharamā Ganadhara Gautama (1) Arya Jambū (2) Ārya Prabhava (3) Ārya Sayyambhava (or śvāyambhūva) (4) Ārya Yaśobhadra Ārya Bhadrabāhu (c. B.C. 325-297) (contemporary of Candragupta Maurya) (5) Ārya Sambhūta Ārya Godāsa (and 3 others) (6) Ārya Sthūlabhadra Ārya Mahāgiri (7) Ārya Suhasti (contemporary of Maurya Samprati: c. B.C. 235-215) The date of Arya Sayyambhava depends on the date of the nirvana of Jina Mahāvīra at one end, and of Arya Bhadrabāhu as well as of Arya Suhasti at the other.
