Bhojadeva appears to have made great efforts towards making grammar easy for the readers. This point is expressed by Mahādeva Šāstrī thus:
"hahi Paniniyam tantramadhijigāmsamānānar mahān kleśah sampadyate / tathāhi kvacid jñāpakena kvacid yogavibhāgena kutracid vākhyānena kvacang padānāmanukarsena kvacicca mandūka-plutyā kvacicca parigananena ekatra bhāsyārtha-pariśīlanena itaratra vārttika-paricintanena aparatra ca ganapāthādiśīlanena te te’rthāḥ sādhanīyā drśyante / tānetān kleśān parijihīrșur-Bhojadevah ganapathitān sabdān, paribhāṣāh, jñāpaka-bhāsyesti-vārttika-vyākhyā-gamyānarthāśca sūtra-rūpeṇa granthaśarīra eva samāyojayat / kvacit tatra tatra viprakīrņānām sūtrāņāmekatraiva samāvesena, kvacicca prakaraņādi-vinimayena, sūtrāņām pradeśa-vinimayena paurvāparya-viparināmādināca mahati saukarya-sampattih sampaditá p153
Many sūtras in Pāṇini grammar are interpreted through jñāpaka. This is especially the case regarding the optional dirghatva of astan, when a vibhakti follows. (This point has been discussed by mahādeva Šāstrī in his Prastāvanā, p. 10). Patañjali rejects some of the Katyāyana vārttikas on the ground that the same are indicated by the wordings of Pāṇini's other sūtras. Bhoja has included such implied meanings of jñāpakas in his sūtras itself. Two examples are presented here.
Consider first P. 2.3.13 caturthi sampradāne. The Katyayana vārttika no. 1 says : caturthi-vidhane tādarthye upasarkhyānam. The Bhāsyakāra says: "caturthi-vidhāne tādarthye upasaṁkhyānam kartavyam / yūpāya dāru / kundalāya hiranyam // ... tat-tarhi vaktavyam/ na vaktavyam/ ācārya-pravrttir-jñāpayati Savaiyarhaasschstena yoge caruthita yutuyun turha rututiarna 2.1.36) iu caturthyantasyārtha-śabdena saha samāsam śāsti // Bhoja includes this implied meaning of jñāpaka when along with the sūtra caturthi sampradāne (3.1.230), he also gives tādarthye (3.1.234).
