SAMBODHI
Mādhyamikas say, it is Avidyā or SamvȚtti which hides the real from us and projects on unreal object in its place, while suddhādvaitins state that it is Māyāśakti influences buddhivịtti and this buddhivștti partially or completely convers the real object which is in front of us and appears externally. That means, in the case of Shell-silver illusion internal buddhivịtti or idea of silver appears externally it is illusory (Māyika). This knowledge of silver created by mind is unreal. (विपर्यासस्तु संप्रयुक्त भिन्नार्थमात्र प्रतिपादकं बाह्यं ज्ञानम् । Prasthānaramakara p. 25).
In anyakhyāti knowledge of one thing is projected as another thing due to Māyā. In Mādhyamika system also, it is ignorance or Māyā which covers the real and projects another. In Advaita Vedānta also error arises due to avidyā. In this respect, these theories do not differ very inuch, cause of error is Māyā or ignorance, in all these systems. Vijñānavādins also hold that, in error the internal idea appears to be the external object. Really, there is no external object corresponding to it.
Suddhādvaitins differ from Madhyamikas, saying that, knowledge of silver created by mind is not real, but real Silver and Shell are not unreal even empirical level, because, they are created by God, part of God- (Sadamsa). For Madhyamika, both are unreal, at highest level, because of relativity, and contradiction.
