ON MIA. LAGG - USED AS A 'VECTOR' VERB

As compared to the description and discussion of lag - and other verbs used as the second verb (variously called 'operator', 'explicator', 'vector'l) in NIA compound verbs, we have meagre information about their early history. I have noted below some occurrences of Pk. lagg-, from some early texts in Prakrit, Apabhramśa and Sanskrit?.
Lagg. lag- used as the second verb with the imperfective personal forms of the first verb.

Bahave bhada-bhoiyā laggā benti ya. (Vasudevahimdi-Madhyama-khanda, p.138, 1-13 Date : C. 8th Cent. A.C.) 'And many, soldiers and headmen began to speak'. .

Nāsami laggi (Pauinacariya, 69, 18, 4: 9th Cent. A.C.)

'I began to flee'.

Arahai laggai (Paumacariya, 71,12,7)
(Rīvaņa) has began to wroship'.

Āvai laggau (Paumacariya, 73,8,9)'has started to come'.

Samappai laggau (Ritthanemi Cariya, 17, 3, 10, 9th Cent. A.C.) 'has begun to be finished.

Olaemi laggo (Kathākośa -prakaraṇa p. 122, 11. 13 -14, 1052 11 started serving'.
