THE CONVERGENCE OF THE MODERN SCIENCE TOWARDS JANISM
S. S. Pokharna
Abstract :
We illustrate here a fundamental similarity between Jainism and the modern science. We show that the two approaches of understanding various phenomena of nature are basically identical. However, the detail treatments may be different in the two cases. It appears that finally science is converging towards Jainism. In that way we lastly illustrte how significant the idea of " Kevala jñāna " is in the context of the difficulties which the scientific methods are presently facing.
1. Introduction :
TH
There exist remarkable parallels between Jainism and modern science!. These parallels are not accidental but come from a very profound agreement between the Jaina's way of secing the world and the concept of modern science. If we leaye aside the detail treatments, then we can say without any loss of generality that fundamentally there is no difference between these two approaches to understand different phenomena occurring in nature. In some cases a serious consideration of various theories may yield some new ideas which can help in resolving many disputes which the scientists are presently facing today. Instead of making a one to one comparison we shall discuss various aspects of different phenomena from a very fundamental point of view.
To section 2, we discuss self-consistency and unifying nature of Jaina's theories which are the most important aspects of any beautiful theory. Then in section 3, we analyze the shape of the universe as given in Jainism in terms of symmetry and antisymmetry a which are the two most fundamental attributes of the universe as has been emphasized by seycral scientists. In the section 4, we study the importance of Dharmastikaya in the light of the difficulties which are coming in the way while reconciling relativity and quantum mechanics. The section 5 has becn devoted to emphasize the importance of the principle of Syādvada for particle physics-4. Some new
