the quotation in Mā Dha. Vr9 reads muda.' Which of these two forms must have been intended by Dhanapala ? Sakațāyaṇa reads 'pudu'. Thereforo 'pudi' is more probale. On the other hand muda' is not impossible. Because Ksirasvāmi reads 'mudi pramardane'. 8.1.2. Barh-balh and varh-valh (Gana I)- Dhanapala100 differs from Pa. Dhatupatha in the case of the first pair. Instead of bach-balb, he substita utes varh-valh in the meaning of prādbänya.' In this he seems to follow Sakatayana, but differs from Ksirasvāmi, Krsna Lilasuka and Sāyana,
As regards the form of varh-valh' (meaning paribhāsaņa etc.), Dljanapalalol as quoted by Sāyaṇa reads barh-balh in the sense of paribhāşaņa etc.
8.1.3. Śikṣ (Gana I)-Dhanapāla 102 here points out that Āryas read it as *ørkt.' Ma, dha. Vp.108 names some Kaśyapa along with Dhanapala as holditig this view.
Of course, all authors of Dhātupāțhas and commentators read śıkr secane'. Bhattikāvya has also used śiśike (XIV, 76). - The only support we get for this view of Dhanapala is that of Bhāgavrtti. If the explanatory sentence of Mahābhāşya on Ast, 6-1-64, Bhāgavrttikärato a teads 'sikr" before sekr'. But Purusakāra considers this form as being unproper for usage.
8.1.4, kun (Gaņa VI). Pa.-Dhatupātha reads 'kun sabde' in Gaņa VI. Dhanapāla105 refers to the opinion of some who also read kūn, because äkūtam' is current in the usage, Ma - Dhā, Vr.106 while referring to this opinion of Dhanapāla, notices that Ātreya, Maitreya, Kaśyapa, Sudhākara and Sammalākāra also read it as dirghānta. Not only that he quotes Kalyala's Pradipa on Mahabhāgya's explanation of Ast, 1-2-9 and points out Hat Kaiyata also favours dirghānta.
8.1.6. Snih (Gaņa X)-Pa. Dbātupātha reads. 'şņiha suehane', while Dhanapala107 prefers 'sniha' as the form for this root,
