As seen above, Gonaratna seems to be a very well-read person having drawn upon various commentaries on tho KP, as well as other works on Alamkāra Ho seeing to be fairly conversant with the Nyryadar sana also His style carries the stamp of all this As pointed out in my annotations, there seem to be some peculiarities concerning his stylo which may be referred to here in & out-shell as below
Gunaratna very often tonda to provide original explanations with fresh illostrations as is borne out at places, og, bls explanation of the word budha in ullasa I He says मत्र वदन्ति-कारिफास्थबुधपदेन कस्याभिधान, वैयाकरणस्य ध्वनिकारादेवी । नावः । वैयाकरणेन शब्दार्थयुगलस्य ध्वनित्वानङ्गीकारात् । नान्त्यः, बुधैवैयाकरण रिति विवरणविरोधादिति । ध्वनिकारादिवैयाकरणश्च द्वावेव बुधपदार्थ । वाध्यादतिशयश्च तदनिर्वाह्यरूपनिर्वाहिकत्वम् । तच्चालङ्कारिकनये चमत्कारो, वैयाकरणमते च पदार्थवाक्यार्थधीरुभयमपि वाच्येन शोध्यम् । व्यङ्ग्येनैवाठमाणत्वमिति वाच्या व्यङ्ग्यस्यातिशय । बुधपदार्थमुभयमेव क्रमेण व्याचष्टे । etc, etc Ho finds out trirapadhvant in the Illustration viz niþišeşacyutacandana etc तथाऽत्र वस्त्वलङ्काररसरूपस्त्रिविषोऽपि ध्वनिरुक्त' । कथमित्याह-अधमपदेन शब्दशक्तिमूलो वस्तुष्वनि । तथा त्वां दूतीमपि य कामयते स्वमुखसङ्गान्मा विप्रलभसे, स इव त्वमधमा । त्वमिव सोऽप्यधम इति द्वयोः पर्यायेण तस्मिन्नुपमेयोपमेति उपमालङ्कारो व्यङ्ग्य । तथा नायिकाविप्रलम्भशृङ्गारोऽपि व्यङ्ग्यः । He has an interesting discussion on tho tatparyartha in ullasa II. He says. तात्पर्याथोऽपीत्यादि । केषुचिदिति षष्ठ्यर्थे सप्तमी । केषांचिदित्यर्थः । केचिद वेदान्तिना मते चत्वारोऽर्था इति जातम् । असार्वत्रिकत्वेन तुल्यत्वादभिधानं व्यङ्ग्यस्य । तथात्वेऽपि प्रकृतग्रन्थप्रतिपाद्यतया प्राधान्यम् । अयमर्थः । पायलश्ययो सार्वत्रिकत्वेन प्राधान्य प्रकृतग्रन्थानुद्देश्यतया गुणत्वमेव । व्यायस्यासार्वत्रिकत्वेन प्रन्योदेश्यतया प्राधान्याप्राधान्ये । इत्यमीषां तुल्यता । न तु तात्पर्यार्थस्यातयात्वादिति पृथुगुपन्यास । etc , etc
