Justifying Udayana's temptation for the extraordipary elephant, Somdevi mentions that the king was in need of such an elephant that could face and fight the lovincible famous elephant Nadagin of Candamabăsebr whom he would then be able to subdue 75 And this temptation was so powerful that he would not listen to the advice from bis minister Thus. Samadeva has absolved the ministers from the possible charge of negligence or want of faithfulness
