________________ अनुसन्धान-५४ श्रीहेमचन्द्राचार्यविशेषांक भाग-२ 153. The brāhmanas pondered over this and said: "So be it.” The King then invited Hemacandra, the best of Munis. 154. The King, being impartial and equal to all, asked [Hemacandra): “Is it true, according to the scriptures, that the Pāndavas had taken the [muni]dikshā in the manner of the religion of the Arhats?" 155. The Acārya said: “Our former teachers have narrated the going of the Pāndavas to the Himālayas, a narrative from the Mahābhārata". 156. “But we do not know if the Pāndavas described in our scriptures are identical with or different from the Pāndavas praised in the scripture [Mahābhārata] authored by Vyāsa.” 157. The King said: “O Muni! How were they (the Pāndavas) many, born in the past?” And the Teacher said: “O King! Listen to the answer [to your question]”: 158. In the narrative constructed by Vyāsa, it is said that the Son of Gangā (Bhishma), the Grandfather, while entering the battlefield, said to his fellow warriors: 159. “When I give up my life, my body should be remated on a piece of earth, ever pure, a place where no one has ever been cremated.' 160-161. “When having fought in the just war, the Grandfather gave up his life, his attendants, bearing in mind his instruction, took up his body and went up a hill. It was a place high up on the peak of a hill, where no human may travel. At that time the speech of a deity (devatā) came forth: atra Bhishma-shatam dagdham Pandavānām shatatrayam/ Dronācārya-sahasram tu Karņa-samkhyā na vidyatel 162 162. ‘A hundred Bhishmas, and three hundred Pāndavas have been cremated here. And a thousand Dronācāryas; as for Karnas, their number is countless.' //162
