________________ 40 Translation: The common ratio is multiplied by itself as many times as the number of terms. The resulting product is diminished by one and is then divided by the number equal to one less than the common ratio. The quotient multiplied by the first term gives rise to the sum (of the geometric progression upto n terms). (3) To determine the circumference from the diameter, the value of r is taken to be √10 and the formula is π Circumference (diameter) x 10 Area of the circle = Circumference x (diameter)/4 Volume 2, chapter 1, verse no. 9 vāsakadi dasa-guṇidā, karaṇī parihi ca mandale khette/ vikkhambha-caubbhāga-ppahadā sā hodi khettaphalam//91// JAIN JOURNAL: Vol-XXX, No. 2.
