________________ JULY, 1989 23 Another legend relates that about 600 years ago Manga Oswal, an affluent merchant of Pari Nagar, on business at Piran Patan was informed by an apparition of a priceless statue buried under a Muslim's property. After considerable effort, Oswal secured the idol and returned with it to Pari Nagar where the apparition appeared to him again and ordered him to put the image on a cart made of neem wood, drawn by two calves and go without looking after him. Thus Manga Oswal went until the cart broke down and the man fell asleep from exhaustion. The spirit appeared to him for the last time informing him that the image was now under the ground and that he was to build a temple on that spot. These are the legends.
