treatises on architecture : moreover, this arch over the door that leads into the inner cell of the temple, on account of the two lions on it, altogether disturbs the worship of the god : moreover, the hall of elephants, adorned with the statues of ancestors, in the back part of the temple, is fatal to the long life of the man who had the temple built. That an intelligent architect should have committed these three irremediable faults is to be ascribed to the force of actions in a former life, that must produce their effect.” When Yasovira had given this decision, he returned to the place from which he came. The couplets in his praise run as follows:
Yasovira, this moon is the summit of the pearl-heap of your glory; The spot in the moon is really the auspicious talisman to guard it. Cyphers, Yasovira, empty in the middle, are of no value, They acquire numerical value only when combined with you. Yasovira, when the Disposer writes your name on the moon, He finds that the two first syllables cannot be contained in the sky.
