________________ . 17 admit Light and Darkness as a real material substance, but the Jaina thinks rs have elaborately mentioned them as Udhyot (light), Prabha (1llumination or sparkles), Tamas Chaya or Shadow, which are actually material objects consisting of molecule s and atoms. Vidyuth (electricity) has also been mentioned in the Jaina soriptures in a most consistent way. Several shastras (scriptures) are available regarding the Jaina atomic theory and as to how the atoms are being classified. These scriptures Are the Panchastikayan, the Dravya Sangraham and the Bhagawati Sutran. Regarding the Karman matter cla esifications (karma vargana) of the atoms, some Jain scriptures like the Jaya Dhavala, Gomatasaram, Panchasangraha, Kammapayadi, Karmaprabhrita, Panohistikayam, Dravyasamgrahan, Bhagawati Sutram and similar other works have been published, but many more such works remain unpublished in manuscript from which are preserved in the Sruta Bhandaras. As for the veracity and truthfulness of certain principle 8 on plant life, I may tell you that the Jaina scriptures declare that the plant not only possessed lite, but also almost all the instincts of the mind like anger, pride, deceipt, ambition, passien anddesire too. This subject of plant life has been dealt with in an elaborate manner in the Jeevabhigama Sutra and the Acharanga Sutra. The late Dr. J.C. Bose, who is considered as the pioneer in the discovery of hitherewe unknown secrets of plant life and its instincts has mentioned the above two Jaina sutras, the Jeevabhigam Sutra and the Acharanga Sutra in his memorable le otures on biology delivered at German Universities.
