KARTTIKKYANUPREKŞA
This specification of the anthor's name is Kārttikeya has led to some other deductions if not complications. While explaining gātbā No. 394, Subhacandra has an illustrative remark to this effect :
Some bave induced themselves to beliove that here is a reference to the author of the Kattigcyānuppekkha. Even Sublacandra who is, inore than any one else, responsible for using the name Kārttikeya for Kumāra, does not state that here is a reference to the author on whose work be is writing à commentary. So there is no evidence at all to identify the anthor Kumāra, called Kärttikeya (along with the title Svāmi) with this Srāmi-Kārttikeya of pre-historic, if not legendary, fane who suffered the troubles inflicted on him by Kraunca-raja.
The Kuthākošas give the biography of Kārttikeya (originally Kārttika) who was hit by king Kraanca; and the basic verse for the story runs thus in the Bhausurti Aradhanui (1549)
In this connection the following three găthās from the Samharaga deserve special attention (67-69):
The Bha. Ā. mentions Aggidayido' which according to the Pijayodaya is Agni-raja-szatań, but according to the Maltārädhana-carpano of Asadbara Agni-rājandimmah pastrah Kārtikeya-sarina, The Scenthāraga inentions the name Kattiya (with the title (ja), and go also the Brhat Kathakosa (Story No. 136) Kārtika (with the title Stximi), and not specifically Kārttikeya, The detailed biograplıy of this brave saint is given in the Kathakosas of Harişena," Sricandra, Prabhācandra, Nemidatta and others.
