जैसे कोई व्यक्ति शरीर में तेल लगाकर धुलि में लोटे तो वह धूलि उमके स ग शरीर में चिपक जाती है, उसी प्रकार मिथ्यात्व, अविरति, प्रमाद, कषाय, योग आदि में जब संसारावस्थापन्न जीब' के आत्मप्रदेशों में परिस्पन्दन --- हलन-चलन होता है, उस समय अनन्तानन्त कर्मयोग्य पुद्गल परमाणुओं का आत्मप्रदेशों के साथ सम्बन्ध होने लगता है और जिस प्रकार अग्नि से संतप्त लोहे का गोला प्रतिसमय अपने सर्वांग रो जल को खींचता है, उसी प्रकार संसारीछद्मस्थ-जीव अपने मन, वचन, काया की चंचलता से मिथ्यात्वादि कर्मबन्ध के कारणों द्वारा प्रतिक्षण कमपुद्गलों को ग्रहण वारता रहता है और दूध-पानी व अग्नि तथा लोहे के गोले का जैसा सम्बन्ध होता है, उसी प्रकार का जीव और उन कर्मपुद्गलों का सम्बन्ध हो जाता है। __जीव में ज्ञान, दर्शन, सुस्त्र, वीर्य आदि अनन्त गुण विद्यमान हैं। कर्म जीव के इन अनन्त गुणों को आवृत करने के साथ-साथ जन्म-मरण कराने तथा उच्च-नीच आदि कहलाने में कारण बनते हैं और उन-उन अवस्थाओं में जीव का अस्तित्व टिकाये रखते हैं । जीव और कर्म का सम्बन्ध
