चतुष्क, अगुरुलचुचतुष्क, बसद्विक, सत्रिक, सचतुष्क, असषट्क इत्यादि संज्ञाएं (विभाषाएं) हो जाती हैं । इसी प्रकार अन्य भी उन-उन संख्यक प्रकृतियों के नाम गिनने से और और संज्ञाएँ समझ लेनी चाहिए । विशेषार्थ- शास्त्र का अर्थ समझने के लिए विस्तार न करना पड़े और जिज्ञासुओं को संक्षेप में कथन का आशय समझाने के लिए संकेतपद्धति अपनाई जाती है। इसीलिए यहाँ भी इसी सुगम शैली को अपनाकर कुछ संज्ञाओं का निर्धारण किया गया है। संकेत, विभाषा, संज्ञा ये शब्द समानार्थक हैं ।
प्रकृति के नामनिर्दशपूर्वक किये गये दो, तीन, चार आदि संख्याओं के संकेत ये उस प्रकृति के नाम-सहित आगे की प्रकृतियों के नामों को मिनकर संख्या की पूर्ति करने से ये संज्ञाएं बनती हैं। इस प्रकार से बनने वाली कुछ संज्ञाओं का संकेत इन दो माथाओं में किया गया है. जो इस प्रकार है
प्रसचतुष्क--(१) सनाम, (२) बादरनाम, (३) पर्याप्तनाम, (४) प्रत्येकनाम।
स्पिरषद्क-(१) स्थिरनाम, (२) शुभनाम, (३) सुभगनाम. (४) सुस्वरनाम, (५) आदेयनाम, (६) यश-कीर्तिनाम ।
अस्थिरषद्क-(१) अस्थिरनाम, (२) अशुभनाम, (३) दुर्भगनाम, (४) दुःस्वरनाम, (५) अनादेयनाम, (६) अयशःकीर्तिनाम ।
स्थावरचतुष्क-(१) स्थावरनाम, (२) सूक्ष्मनाम, (३) अपर्याप्त. नाम, (४) साधारणनाम ।
सुभगत्रिक -(१) सुभगनाम, (२) सुम्वरनाम, (३) आदेयनाम ।
वर्णचतुष्क-(१) वर्णनाम, (२) गंधनाम, (३) रसनाम, (४) स्पर्शनाम।
