________________ Pancastikaya-samgraha अनुकम्पा के स्वरूप का कथन - The nature of compassion (anukampa) - तिसिदं बुभुक्खिदं वा दुहिदं दठूण जो दु दुहिदमणो / पडिवज्जदि तं किवया तस्सेसा होदि अणुकंपा // 137 // तृषितं बुभुक्षितं वा दुःखितं दृष्ट्वा यस्तु दुःखितमनाः / प्रतिपद्यते तं कृपया तस्यैषा भवत्यनुकम्पा // 137 // अन्वयार्थ - [ तृषितं ] तृषातुर, [ बुभुक्षितं ] क्षुधातुर [ वा ] अथवा [दुःखितं] दु:खी को [ दृष्ट्वा ] देखकर [ यः तु] जो जीव [दुःखितमनाः ] मन में दु:ख पाता हुआ [तं कृपया प्रतिपद्यते ] उसके प्रति करुणा से वर्तता है, [तस्या एषा अनुकम्पा भवति ] उसकी वह अनुकम्पा है। The soul (jiva) that is grieved at the sight of the thirsty, the hungry and the miserable, and provides succour for them, is with compassion (anukampa). EXPLANATORY NOTE To get moved by the sight of those suffering from thirst, etc., and to provide succour for them is compassion (anukampa). It occurs in the initial stages of spiritual development to those with wrong-knowledge - ajnani. The compassion (anukampa) of those with right-knowledgejnani - entails dispositions (bhava) of fright at the misery of worldlyexistence - samvega - and detachment for worldly-existence - vairagya. .. . . . . . . . . . . .. . 254
