मृत्यु से आत्मा की पर्याय (शरीर) का परिवर्तन होता है, आत्मा नष्ट नहीं होती' । कर्मानुसार दूसरा चोला बदल लेती है । जैसे सोने का कड़ा तुड़वा कर हार बनवाया, हार तुड़वा कर डली बनवाई, कड़ा और हार की अवस्था तो बदल गई परन्तु द्रव्य की अपेक्षा से सोने का नाश नहीं हुआ। तीनों अवस्थाओं में सोना मौजूद रहा, वैसे ही द्रव्य की अवस्था चाहे बदल जाये, परन्तु किसी द्रव्य का नाश नहीं होता और जब द्रव्य नित्य और अनादि है तो द्रव्यों का समूह यह जगत भी अनादि
