होम होने लगा और यह स्वीकार किया जाने लगा कि यज्ञों में हिंसा करने से नरकों के महादु:ख भोगने पड़ते हैं । स्वर्ग की प्राप्ति नहीं होती । यदि मन्त्रों द्वारा यज्ञों में भस्म होने वाले जीवों को स्वग की प्राप्ति हो तो लोग अपने बूढ़े माता-पिता को यज्ञों में भस्म करके उनको स्वर्ग की प्राप्ति सहज में क्यों न करा देते ? यदि हिंसामयी यज्ञों से स्वर्ग की प्राप्ति सम्भव है तो ऋषि

"नाकृत्वा प्राणिनां हिंसा मांसमुत्पद्यते क्वचित् ।
न च प्राणिवधः स्वर्गस्तस्मान्मांसं विवजयेत् ॥ ' - मनुस्मृति ५, ८४ ।
Flesh can not be obtained without killing creatures, and Heven can not be at ained if creatures are killed. Therefore flesh should be discarded.

४. “ निहतस्य पशो यज्ञे स्वर्गप्राप्ति यदीष्यते ।
पिता यजमानेन किन्तु कस्मान्न हन्यते ॥ २८ ॥ - विष्णुपुराण 1 अर्थात्-यज्ञ में मारे हुए पशु को यदि स्वर्ग की प्राप्ति मानते हो तो यजमान अपने पिता को क्यों नहीं मार देता ?
