"6 The Prakriti though considered as a primordial essence is regarded as consisting of three constituent principles in a state of equipoise called Gunas. The Gunas are, Sattva, Rajas and Tamas meaning respectively 'goodness or purity, passion or activity darkness or ignorance.'
