People other than Jains spend their holy days in enjoyment and pleasure, entirely forgetting themselves and letting themselves loose without any restraint or control. In contrast to these, the peculiar importance or greatness of the holy days of the Jains lies in this. They teach one selfrestraint, austerities, selflessness, magnanimity and controlled conduct of life. Each one of the holy days of the Jains has an unprecedented educative value and increases one's knowledge.
