98 Attempts have been made to show that Siddharấja was not favourably inclined to Jainism, and the story of Merutunga that the king did not allow the Jains to hoist flags on their temples for some time, quoted. The story of Merutunga, unconfirmed as it is, does not deserve credence. It is hardly probable that a king who allowed the Musalmans to erect & mosque in Stambhatirtha and took particular care to see that their religious liberty was not invaded, should refuse permission to the Jains to hoist flags.
