THE JAINA GAZETTE Important personalities like Raja Sir Rampal Singh 11.L.A. Dr. B. S. Moonje M.L.A. & Mr. K. B. Ranga lyer ML.A. have supported the claims of the Jain Community
The All India Hindu Mahasabha has also passed the following resolution in its last Surat session (31st March 1329).
"That the Mahasabha learns with extreme regret that the religious procession of the Jains was stopped by the Sanatanist Hindus owing to a misunderstanding at Bayana and calls upon the Local Hindus to settle the dispute and help the Jains in observing their religious ceremonies."
The letter from the Secretary Hindu Mahasabha addressed to the State authorities in this connection, reproduced below speaks for itself.
To the Dewa, Saheb; The Judicial Secretary ; The Supt. of Police, Bharatpur.
Sir,
I beg to enclose here with a copy of the resolution which was passed by the 12th Session of the Hindu Mahasabha, held at Surat on the 31st March 1929, under the presidentship of Babu Ramanand Chatterji, Editor, Modern Review, Calcutta.
In accordance with this resolution the Hindu Mahasabha deputed a representative to enquire into the real conditions prevailing at Bayana. He has now submitted his report to the Hindu Mahasabha from which it appears that the general bulk of the Sanatanist Hindus is not hostile to the procession of the Jain Hindus. Only a few mischief makers had given out that they would create a disturbance if the procession was taken out. On this the local authorities seem to have approached the Jain Hindus who agreed to postpone the taking out of the procession. Our representative is of opinion that if the authorities had taken a firm stand to protect the unquestioned right of the Jain Hindus to take out their procession and had warned those very few Sanatanists who were opposed to their taking out the procession, the bulk of the Hindus would have stood by the authorities. As the last year's incident has created unpleasantness among our Jain brethren and as it is the duty of the ExecuShree Sudharmaswami Gyanbhandar-Umara, Surat
