________________ Jainistir. 63 materials like food, clothes, wealth etc. Now the Jains, a Lillion and a half in all, are spread over Lahore and Kashmere in the North, Mysore Material and Ramesliwer in the South and prosperity Bombay, Gujerat anıl Karachi in the of the Jains west. But not one will be found to wander over public strects in search of food. Fanine, fire or floods may hare reduced some to destitution; but they are very few. Most of the Jains are merchants, money-lenders or landholders. A few are servants. But they are well-doing men as a class. Some are own; ers of lacks. A faw are owners of crores too. Thus the Jains are a materially prosperous class. We shall consider their ethical condi tión now. The proportion of jaol-going population is a good index to the moral condition of a community.
