THE MESSAGE OF JAINISM I have been often asked as to what I think to be the merit of Jainism as a practical religion. I have, therefore, tried to give a short answer today, which the general. public might be able and willing to follow. At first sight it might appear to be a one-sided answer, because it is. based solely on the problem of the mutual relations of the individual and the society. Still, this problem is one of vital importance and, as I said before, is the very touchstone by which the value of a religion can be objectively assessed. Hence it would not be too much to say, as I conclude, that this exposition may well stand as a kind of introduction into the spirit of Jainism.
