________________ as to vanquish intractable enemies of passions (kaṣāya) and sense-pleasures (visaya). It is so because learned ascetics consider the suppression of attachment and aversion the only fruit of austerities and the study of the Scripture. दृष्ट्वा जनं व्रजसि किं विषयाभिलाषं स्वल्पोऽप्यसौ तव महज्जनयत्यनर्थम् । स्नेहाद्युपक्रमजुषो हि यथातुरस्य दोषो निषिद्धचरणं न तथेतरस्य ॥१९१॥ Verses 190, 191 अर्थ - हे भव्य! तू विषयी जन को देखकर स्वयं विषय की अभिलाषा को क्यों प्राप्त होता है? कारण कि थोड़ी-सी भी वह विषयाभिलाषा तेरे लिये अधिक अनर्थ (अहित) को उत्पन्न करती है। ठीक ही है- जिस प्रकार कि तेल आदि स्निग्ध पदार्थों का सेवन रोगी मनुष्य के लिये हानिकारक होने से दोषपूर्ण है - निषिद्ध आचरण है दूसरे (निरोगी) के लिये नहीं है। उस प्रकार वह O worthy soul! Why do you long for sense-pleasures as you see the sensuous men? Even a little longing for sense-pleasures is extremely harmful for you. It is right; consumption of oily things, like ghee, being harmful, is proscribed for the man under treatment, but it is not so for the others. ......... ..... 157
