________________ 156 Pronunciation Guide 15. Pronunciation Guide Many readers struggle with pronunciation of Gujarati words, particularly given the number of consonants and vowel sounds. Because more than one consonant or vowel corresponds approximately to a Roman (English) letter, it is impossible to assign a single letter for every Gujarati sound. One way in which this has been done, is by adding marks, called diacritics, to the letters to indicate a specific meaning, and in some cases we show them below, but have not used them in our text, so as to avoid the reader having to learn a new system Caution Because of the use of the system below, readers will find words with which they are familiar looking a little different. For the sake of simplicity and to avoid confusion, we have assumed that all are new and are using the transliteration as a pronunciation guide, so as to sing or read alongside the recital of the poetry and prose in this “Regime of Love."
