Corresponding to the 10 quarters, there are 10 guardians of quarters which are mentioned in Jainism as follows: (1) Indra, (2) Agni, (3) Yama, (4) Nairuta, (5) Varuna, (6) Vayu, (7) Kubera, ( 8 ) Is'ana, (9) Brahma and (10) Naga. Sometimes, they are taken to be 8 in number omitting the last two. खित्तवाल (Sk. क्षेत्रपाल) The guardian of the continents.
