EPIGRAPHIA INDICA
[VOL. XXXI unsupported by any of the numerous records of the imperial branch of the Ganga family including his own epigraphs. It is also inexplicable why this inscription, like the charters of the Kadambas (believed by Dr. Majumdar to have been issued during the reign of Rajaraja I) and those of the Early Gangas, is dated in the Ganga era while the grants of the Imperial Gangas from the time of Vajrahasta III are all dated in the Saka era. Another difference between these records dated in the Ganga era and the grants of Rajaraja I dated in the Saka era is that, while the former are written in the Kalinga script, the Gaudiya alphabet has been employed in the latter.
