No. 20.-THE SECOND HALF OF A VALABHI GRANT OF SAMVAT 210.
BY D. B. DISKALKAR, M.A., RAJKOT.
The plate published below was discovered in 1894 in (the small town of Tyāveja which lies 10 miles to the south-west of Pālitāna in the Gohelwär pränt of Käthiawär. It was found by Mr. Tudor Owen, I.C.S., the Administrator of the Pälitāna State some years ago, and is now preserved in the Watson Museum at Rajkot. As is clearly shown by the measurements, the distance between the holes of the ring, the characters and the opening words, it must be the second half of the grant the first half of which has already appeared in Vol. XVII, pp. 108 ff.. of this journal,
The present plate, containing 15 lines of writing in clear and bold characters, is like the first one in an excellent state of preservation. There are comparatively few grammatical mistakes found in the inscription. The sandki rules are many times not observed. The sign for upadhmāniya is found in lines 2, 5 and 6.
The grant issued by Dhruvasēna I, as may be seen from the first plate and from the year 210 in this plate, when as many as four other grants were issued by him, makes a gift in the follow.
