TRANSLATION. Hail! Prosperity! In the thirteenth year of the reign of) king Jaţăvarman alias Udaiyar sri-Sundara-Choļa-Pandyadēva, the great assembly of Rājarāja-chaturvēdimangalam sold the following land to the Supreme Lord (paramasvā min) of fri-RajēndrasolaViņnagar at fri-Rajaraja-chaturvēdimangalam, a brahmadēya in Muļļi-nādu a district of) Mudigondasöla-valanädu (which was a subdivision) of fri-Rajaraja-Pāņdinādu. (The land lies) to the west of the path called) Idaikkunravetti* (leading to our hamlet (padägai) of Pāmbuņāri, to the east of the dēvadina of the god of śri-Rājarāja-Viņņagar, to the north of (the river) Tan-Porundam alias Mudigondasõlappērārus and to the south of the river called) fri-Rajarajappërāru. The great assembly of fri-Rajaraja-chaturvödimangalam sold to the Supreme Lord of Sri-Rājëndrašola-Viņvagar, six vēli of river-fed double-crop land lying within these boundaries together with three tēli of malukkādu-land of the same (class) which was being brought under cultivation ; three vēli of dry malakkidu-land; one (vēli) and seven mi of river-fed double-crop land in Konādu, a hamlet of our village; 'half (a vēli) of double-crop river-fed land at Kādēļu in Kadaiyattu-Padaiyāvili, a hamlet of this village ; half (a vēli) of single crop land close to the bank of the tank at Pulakkuļam alias Vārimāyiletti, a hamlet of this village ; half a vēli) of crop-yielding marshy land in the bed of this tank ;-in all measuring seven (vēli) three quarters and two ma of river.fed double crop land; three vēli of malakkad u-land of the same class); three vēli of dry malukkadu-land; half (a téli) of single crop land; half (a veli) of marshy land in the tank; together making a total of fourteen and three-fourths (vēli) and two mi. For the land thus given away by sale, this shall be the sale deed and the document evidencing the receipt of the money for our having obtained on hand the entire sub-amount agreed upon by us. Besides this, no other deed evidencing the payment in full of the sale money (vilai-măv-arudi-porul-félav-diai) shall be demanded. We, the members of the great assembly of fri-Räjarája chaturvedimangalam, gave the land with libation of water to the Supreme Lord of Rajendra-sola-Viņpagar, having sold it completely and obtained the entire price and having executed the

At first sight one would take the expression Tanporundamāna-Mudigondafola-ppäraru to mean Mudigondasölappërára which is ever filled with water', but the real siguificance of the words seems to be that Mudi. goodasölu=pperiru is another name for Tan-Porundam or the cool Porundam. Porundam and Porunai are other names of the river Tamraparpi.
The word vabakkaninra seems to be used in this sense also in No. 326 of the Epigraphical collection for 1908, in the passage i-nnilattukku kaium-kalli Kadum-vetti nilamum-vasakki payir-erré. Here valakki teema to mean cultivating or ploughing in which sense it does not appear to be used at present.
