________________ Ajna is in the centre of the forehead in between the two eyes. This chakra has the capacity to command all the functions and hence is called Ajna. During meditation if there no peculiar desiere to concentrate on any other centre, it is better to concentrate on this centre rather than coming up concentrating from Mooladhara up. The Sahasrara chakra is above all the other charkas. It is at this chakra that one gets the Nirvana or realization or jnana as Yogis call it. Each chakra controls various functions of the body in different parts." (ibid, p. 25) 3. Science and Art of Mediation Scientific method is based on detached observation. The entire discipline of meditation is also based on detached observation - of self and the world around. Seng T'san, the 6th century Chinese patriarch of Zen says in the Hsin Hsin Hsin Ming, one of the earliest Zen writing. "The Great Way" is not difficult for those who have no preferences. When love and hate are both absent every thing become clear and undisguised. Make the smallest distinction, however, and heaven and earth are set infinitely apart... ('U'. p. 64) The experience of meditations is to steady the mind. To control it so that it does not let emotions play havoc with our lives. To grow a mind where there is no love or hatred. This does not make life less interesting, if only make it less stressful and full of more friends than enemies. Amind that does not hold an opinion for or against is a mind moving closure to the truth. An empty mind, which is able to control its thoughts, is the result of meditation.
